Who Will He Play on 'AHS: Freak Show'?

by Kaitlin Reilly

The new season of American Horror Story is beefing up its cast, and this time, it's a TV vet who is joining the creepy anthology series. So far we know that Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, and Kathy Bates are all returning to American Horror Story: Freak Show , which is awesome news considering that these three ladies stole the show on American Horror Story: Coven. Now the role of newcomer Michael Chiklis has been revealed, and he'll play someone with a connection to all three of these actress's new characters. According to TVLine, Chiklis will play the "strong man" on AHS: Freak Show. The strong man will have ties to Lange's character while also being the husband and ex-husband of Bassett and Bates' character, respectively.

Contending with three powerhouse actresses won't be an easy task for Chiklis, but he certainly has the TV experience to pull it off. You may know Chiklis from his starring role on The Commish, the '90s police dramedy where he played the police commissioner of a small town. Later on, he starred on The Shield as Detective Vic Mackey. He kept up his typecast as a police guy with his starring role on ABC's superhero comedy No Ordinary Family... where he played a police sketch artist.

Funnily enough, his superhero power on No Ordinary Family may have snagged him the role he currently has on American Horror Story. Chiklis' superpower on No Ordinary Family was super strength — the very thing that makes him a "freak" on American Horror Story. This isn't the first time that Chiklis has played an alleged "freak," either — he starred as The Thing in the 2005 Fantastic Four film and the sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Before the new season of American Horror Story begins, you can see Chiklis in new football film When the Game Stands Tall (which might make you cry just as hard as Remember the Titans, if the trailer is any indication at all) and reruns of the (now cancelled) 2013 CBS series, Vegas.

American Horror Story is the natural next move for this TV veteran, and I can't wait to see this guy get his "freak" on.
