Are You Ready for This Disney Reunion?

by Kadeen Griffiths

It's like the plot of Camp Rock is playing out in real life — sort of. Ever since the Jonas Brothers broke up in October 2013, Nick Jonas has been the one keeping the most on the downlow. Oh, sure, he can't hide those abs from us, but while Joe Jonas was giving tell-all interviews that revealed he smoked pot with Miley Cyrus and Kevin Jonas was being married, Nick Jonas was keeping slightly off the radar. Jonas appeared in a thriller called Careful What You Wish For and then joined Demi Lovato as the Musical and Creative Director of her tour. He also joined Lovato on stage during select dates of her Neon Lights Tour, which, apparently, was a preview of what's to come. According to an interview with MTV, Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas might start a band together and it's not the worst idea in the world.

According to Lovato, they already have the band name picked out. While a side project or a duet album won't be coming any time soon since she's got her tours and Jonas is working on his new album, the pair of them have already written at least one song together and are seriously interested in taking it further. And why not? Jonas and Lovato more than proved that they have intense stage chemistry during their Neon Lights Tour duets and, better yet, they're both insanely talented musicians.

Nick Jonas wrote and recorded his first song at 10 years old. It was called "Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)" and it was featured on the 2002 Broadway annual "Equality Fights AIDS" album called Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4. He released his next single, "Dear God", at age 14 and had a solo album that got limited release at age 15. That's right. The Jonas Brothers didn't start performing together until after Nick Jonas was already a thing.

Lovato, on the other hand, got her career start in acting when she and long-time friend Selena Gomez appeared together on Barney & Friends, but she has been playing the piano since she was 7 years old and the guitar since she was 10 years old. Her first songs were recorded when she was 16 years old, as part of the Camp Rock soundtrack — a film which, incidentally, marked the first time she performed with Nick Jonas and the Jonas Brothers.

As Lovato herself said once, "Nick has been one of my absolute best friends for five, six years of my life now. We’ve grown up together, I was right there when they blew up and it’s been an incredible journey, our friendship. And now he’s directing my show and it’s pretty incredible and I always have fun with him, no matter what I’m doing."

Between Demi Lovato's fame and Nick Jonas' talent, a solo project featuring the two of them has the potential to blow up. What are they waiting for? If they don't announce a side project as soon as Nick Jonas' first album comes out, then I'll be the first one to start a petition to get these two to make beautiful music together.
