'Big Hero 6's Full-Length Trailer is Here

by Kadeen Griffiths

As the next entry in Disney Animated Canon after the mind-blowingly popular juggernaut that was Frozen, Big Hero 6 has a lot of eyes on it right now. Big Hero 6 is a collaboration between Disney and Marvel about a young inventor named Hiro Hamada who teams up with his brother, Tadashi, and their friends, Go Go Tamago, Wasabi No-Ginger, Honey Lemon, and Fred to save the world. The fact that Hiro is a person of color is just one more reason to get excited about even though Disney is arriving late to the diversity party with snacks. From the looks of the first full length trailer for Big Hero 6, the film is off to a promising start.

The trailer features Hiro Hamada trying in vain to convince a very bored police officer about the fantastic and dangerous powers of the Big Bad that he just witnessed in action. When the officer threatens to call his parents, Hiro and his robot companion take off and apparently eventually decide that the only people who can save San Fransokyo are him and his merry band of friends.

Whereas the first sneak peek of Big Hero 6 gave me Frozen flashbacks due to how much Baymax, the robot, resembled Elsa's snow guardian Marshmallow, Big Hero 6 builds itself into its own movie here that looks exactly like what a perfect blend of Disney and Marvel would produce. With an ensemble cast including Maya Rudolph, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., Scott Adsit, James Cromwell, Génesis Rodríguez, and T. J. Miller, Big Hero 6 might not reach the same adoring heights as Frozen did but it sure looks like it's going to try.
