13 Nerdy Wedding Cakes FTW!

I’m not married, but if my significant other and I ever do decide to tie the knot, our one must-have wedding item will be an awesome wedding cake. But I don’t mean a gigantic, pink, rose-covered, beribboned mountain of buttercream; those are a dime a dozen (well, not literally...they are actually super expensive). We’re a nerdy couple, so naturally we’d need a nerdy cake. Neither of us is a pastel kind of person

Nor are we the only ones to have had this idea — and thanks to the Internet, we can spend all the time we want ooh-ing and aah-ing over the nerdiest of nerdy wedding cakes. Each and every one of them is a masterpiece; but even more importantly, they perfectly represent the couples whose marriage they’re celebrating. At the end of the day, the best wedding cake inspiration comes from the bride and groom (or bride and bride, or groom and groom, or any other combination out there) themselves — but if you’re in need of something to jump start the thought process for your upcoming nuptials, here are 13 fabulous treats to get you started. Yum! Also, wow!

1. There and Back Again

If marriage is a journey, this Hobbit-inspired cake is the perfect way to kick it off.

2. Timey-Wimey, Wibbley-Wobbley

I’d travel through time and space for you!

3. Laugh It Up, Fuzzball

Uh, how amazing would it be to have the Millennium Falcon as your honeymoon vehicle?

4. Bookworms

The couple that reads together…

5. Mushrooms

There are a lot of Super Mario-themed wedding cakes out there (and I do mean a lot), but I can safely say that this is the classiest one I’ve ever seen. Seriously. “Understated elegance” is not a phrase I would typically use to describe something inspired by a mustachioed cartoon plumber, but, well… there you have it.

6. Wind Waker

There are also a lot of Zelda wedding cakes on the interwebs (Nintendo seems to be a popular theme). I think this one based off of Wind Waker is particularly beautiful, though; also, Princess Zelda started the game as a pirate captain named Tetra, and that’s awesome.

7. Steampunk

The whole steampunk aesthetic really appeals to me in general, but this clockwork confection is gorgeous no matter which way you slice it (see what I did there?).

8. Thinking With Portals

Insert obligatory “This cake is not a lie!” joke here.

9. The Perfect Compromise

I actually think the end result for this one is way cooler than it would have been as just a Batman cake. First off, it perfectly represents both halves of the couple; and second, Batman is a secret identity, so duh, of course one half of the cake would look all perfect and traditional.

10. In the Game of Thrones…

Just, y’know… don’t drink the wine. (P.S. Yeah, I know we already looked at this one in our last crazy wedding cake roundup — but I’ve yet to find a better Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire confection, so I think it deserves another mention).

11. Borg Cube

I’m not totally sure how I feel about the implication that marriage assimilates two people into a collective and totally strips them of their individuality… but the cake is still cool.

12. Avengers, Assemble!

My favorite part is the fact that the Iron Man section lights up.

13. Halo

The only thing that would make this Halo cake better is if the ceremony was officiated by Caboose from Red vs. Blue.
