She Never Met Her "Father" on Set

by Mallory Schlossberg

Oh, the things you learn when you're at Comic-Con in San Diego! I'm not, but someone — er, many people — on Twitter are, and now, we are all privy to a really awesome Star Wars factoid. Did you know that Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones didn't meet until they were on The Big Bang Theory together? Say whaaa? That's, like, decades upon decades since they played Princess Leia and Darth Vader. It's, uh... long ago, in a galaxy far, far away. (Or Hollywood, but whatever, I had to.)

If you're familiar with Star Wars — or even if you're not — then you probably know the famous moment when Darth Vader says to Luke Skywalker, "Luke [heavy Darth Vader breathing], I am your father." Luke Skywalker is actually Princess Leia's brother, which means Darth Vader, or Anakin Skywalker, is Princess Leia's dad (her mom is Queen Amidala, AKA Natalie Portman circa 1999). So what do you think was the first thing that Carrie Fisher said when she met James Earl Jones after all those years of never meeting each other? It wasn't, "Wow, very nice to meet you," it was..."Dad!" You know, as one would do if she hadn't seen her father ever, but still knew who he was.

Sorta nuts to think that that they filmed the whole franchise and never even met, right? Blame it on the Death Star or something.

So that, kids, was how she met her father.

Makes you wish you were at Comic-Con, huh? Between that, George R. R. Martin actin' a hilarious fool, and Benedict Cumberbatch's corporeal being, it seems like it's definitely time to start savin' up for next year.
