Who Is Mr. Joan Holloway?

by Ashley Adams

Considering that the show has been nominated for the Emmys' top prize — Outstanding Drama Series — for each of its seven seasons (well, six and a half, technically) the cast of Mad Men is a familiar sight at the award show. But how familiar are you with their dates? You probably don't have a whole lot of trouble picking out Jon Hamm's longtime partner, writer/actress Jennifer Westfeldt and now that Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser have tied the knot, she'll almost certainly be at the awards. Christina Hendricks' husband, Geoffrey Arend, might pose more of a challenge — depending on how much TV you watch of course. Like his wife, Arend is no stranger to the TV screen.

Here are some facts about Mr. Joan Holloway to get you a little more acquainted:

HE’S AN ACTOR

Arend is probably best known for his role on the ABC medical drama Body of Proof, but he's also made his way to the big screen quite a few times. He appeared alongside Johnny Knoxville in The Ringer and in a supporting role in (500) Days of Summer.

HE’S BEEN IN, LIKE, EVERY TELEVISION SHOW EVER

Body of Proof's Ethan Gross wasn't his only foray onto the small screen. He's also made guest appearances on Law and Order and its spinoffs Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent (as three different characters basically making him a guest star triple threat), The Closer, Grey's Anatomy, and Private Practice (also appearing in the last original series/spinoff combo as two different characters). Rule of thumb here: if your mom watches it, he’s been in it.

THEY HAVE A TWO-WEEK RULE

As two working actors, finding time together is probably a challenge for the Arend-Hendricks household. But according to Hendricks, the the couple has a two-week rule. "Two weeks can't go by without us seeing each other, and that's helpful for the mind and heart," Hendricks told Zap2it.

THEY MET THROUGH VINCENT KARTHEISER

If Pete Campbell tried to introduce me to someone, I would probably run the other way fast. But Arend apparently has a firmer grasp on reality than I do, because the two met through Hendricks' Mad Men co-star. And considering they're now happily married, there was presumably no running on his part.

THEY GOT MARRIED IN NEW YORK IN 2009

The pair said "I do" on Oct. 11, 2009. The best part — Mad Men's stylist, Allison Leach, dressed the bridal party in vintage clothing for the special occasion. Joan would approve.

HE HAS A NO SPOILER POLICY WHEN IT COMES TO MAD MEN

Apparently, after glancing through the first couple scripts in advance of their air date, Arend decided to wait for the finished product. OK, Geoff, you are so doing this wrong. Do you not realize you're among the privileged few privy to complete Mad Men spoilers? And you're just going to throw that away? Simply baffling.

But obviously if he landed someone as incredible as Christina Hendricks, he's adhering to the golden rule:
