They Met on Set of a Movie Neither of Them Was In

by Samantha Martin

Jennifer Aniston finally rendered any "Poor Jen!" headlines obsolete when she became engaged to actor Justin Theroux in August of 2013. This engagement came seven years after her infamous split with Brad Pitt. (Y'know, the one where he left her for Angelina Jolie whilst filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith? Of course you do.) So how did Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux meet? Like Pitt and Jolie — even though it feels a little wrong to compare the two relationships — Aniston and Theroux met on a movie set. Unlike Pitt and Jolie, it wasn't an instantaneous love affair. Aniston was introduced to Theroux in 2007 by Ben Stiller, her co-star in Along Came Polly. At the time, Theroux and Stiller were working on Tropic Thunder, a film they co-wrote. Based on her first impression, you wouldn't guess these two would end up together. Quoth Aniston: "I remember thinking he was very dark. At first you think he could be like a serial killer."

It wasn't until the pair worked together in the 2010 movie Wanderlust that Aniston changed her tune from calling him a serial killer to "the nicest person in the world." Just for laughs, let's take a look at how some of Aniston's most famous characters' romances have started out. Has life imitated art? Let's take a look.

On Friends...

During high school, Rachel merely thought of Ross as her BFF Monica's nerdy older brother. It wasn't until she moved to NYC and he taught her how to do laundry that she began to think about him romantically.

In The Good Girl...

In this one, Aniston's character Justine was immediately drawn to Jake Gyllenhaal's brooding character Holden.

In Along Came Polly...

At first, Aniston's free spirited titular character finds Ben Stiller's Reuben to be too tightly wound. They eventually learn that opposites attract.

In Derailed...

Despite both being married, Aniston's Lucinda and Clive Owen's Charles are immediately flirtatious with one another.

In The Switch...

Aniston and co-star Jason Bateman's characters start off as friends and don't become lovers until seven years spent apart.

In Just Go With It...

Aniston reunites with Stiller, only this time she plays his assistant only to fall for each other late in the movie.

As you can see, it's been a pretty mixed bag. The pivotal difference is that Aniston and Theroux are actually real live people in real live love. Congrats you two!
