I'm sure you, just like me until this very moment, didn't know how much you needed a film that starred both Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig until now. It's not a combination of actresses for a cast list that the mind immediately jumps to, but once you hear it, the genius is kind of undeniable. So, I'm happy to report that, seriously, this might actually happen: According to Deadline, both Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are in talks for Ridley Scott's The Martian , which is already set to star Matt Damon. While nothing is official yet, the site reports that Chastain's involvement "likelier than Wiig," but I'm gonna choose to be hopeful and positive about this possibility.
The project has been in the works for some time, and it already sounds pretty great: Based on an e-book by Andy Weir, the story follows an astronaut who is stranded on Mars, struggling to survive while he tries to get back to Earth. Think Gravity, but literally just on Mars! It's not clear who either Chastain or Wiig would be playing, but the roles are described as female leads opposite Damon's astronaut character.
Honestly, I don't even care what their characters are — you tell me that two awesome, talented ladies might star alongside each other in a movie that also involves Matt Damon, and I am so here for it.
There is no time more appropriate for this GIF than now:
