Is Her First Retail Space a Store or a Museum?
She finally did it! Victoria Beckham has opened her first store. And guess what? All of her lines will be housed in the same space, smack-dab in the middle of London. *Schedules next flight into Heathrow.* Although brands seldom choose to launch in London, Dover Street was the obvious choice for Victoria Beckham's three-story, 6,000 square-foot store. Much like her fashion designs (except for those shoes), Beckham took the sleek, minimalist approach with the layout and design of her new store. She worked with renowned architect, Farshid Moussavi to establish the structure. The result? A space that reads like a modern, art museum while being accompanied by the soft touches of feminine fashion.
The imposing, polished-concrete staircase and lattice-work ceiling are juxtaposed by the expansive fitting rooms and walnut accents; while suspended, metal chains hoist some of Beckham's designs. But what is truly impressive is the amount of attention to detail Beckham paid to her flagship store while maintaining the minimalist appeal. Those chains that act as clothing racks perfectly mimic the chains that can be found on her handbags. And the lattice ceilings? The same pattern can be found on sweaters from the designer's previous fall collection.
It really is down to the finest of details with this one. Beckham has even banned cash registers from her store because they aren't sleek enough. Instead, she has taken a cue from those Apple Geniuses and decided that transactions will be made via an iPad.
But perhaps the most exciting part of Beckham's new shop (especially for the fangirls from her Posh Spice days), is that Victoria Beckham herself intends to be a regular presence at her store. Imagine it: personal style advice from the one-and-only Posh Spice, AKA Victoria Beckham, AKA VB. Did you just squeal with excitement? Well, psh, I totally didn't either... totally.
l'm counting down the days until she opens in New York.
