Make Your Sex Life More Eco-friendly

by Emma Cueto

Being an eco-conscious millennial woman can be hard sometimes — fashion can be tricky (but not impossible), going to Whole Foods can make you crazy (not mention broke), and then there's trying to figure out a Diva Cup. But thanks to the new Sustain eco-friendly condoms, your sex life just got a lot greener and a lot less guilt-filled. And now you can even explain your condom choices with the company's hokey new ad. Hooray!

Sustain was launched by a father-daughter team, Jeff Hollender and Meika Hollender, who decided to create a condom brand marketed to women. After all, women purchase 40 percent of all condoms, but research shows that they often feel uncomfortable doing so. Marketing condoms to women — or at least with brands that are more gender-neutral than "Trojan" or "Magnum" — could help ease some of that discomfort. They also made the condoms eco-friendly to further set them apart from the rest of the market, using fair-trade practices and natural latex from sustainably grown rubber. And as an added bonus, they donate 10 percent of their profits toward increasing women's access to health and reproductive care.

But if all of that isn't enough to convince you to buy from them, they also made an advertisement. Which is actually kind of hilarious.

I can't tell if they're trying to be funny on purpose, or if it's accidental — I suspect this is the fault of the fake Southern accent — but to me, the over-the-top ridiculousness of "teaching organic farming to school kids in Bolivia" has to be self-aware. So between that and our protagonist saying "Practice what you preach" literally two seconds before throwing the offending condom onto the street (aka littering), this little advertising gem just gets better every time you watch it.

And hey, it also has a point. Don't our vaginas deserve better?
