'This Is Us' Is Killing It at the Box Office

Not that there was ever any question of whether or not this would be the case, but here you go anyway: According to The Hollywood Reporter, One Direction's movie is doing extremely well in theaters and has already earned over $2 million — after just one day.

The movie officially opened in theaters at 7 p.m. yesterday and went on to pull in a total of $2.7 million in the box office by the end of the day. This is HUGE, considering that concert documentaries aren't usually the most interesting.

For some comparison: Katy Perry's Part of Me concert doc opened to $7.2 million during its entire opening weekend, which is pretty dismal considering how many fans she has. One Direction's numbers are nowhere near Justin Bieber's concert doc, Never Say Never's opening day numbers — that film pulled in $12.4 million on opening day — but it could possibly be within the range of its opening weekend numbers if ticket sales rise to the predicted $20 million plus during the coming Labor day weekend (Bieber's doc pulled in $29 million on opening weekend).

So, yeah, One Direction and their throngs of teenaged fans are probably going to take over the world. Best to just accept it now.

Here's the best part of the story, though: Apparently, One Direction's biggest competition in the box office this weekend is Oscar-bait Lee Daniels' The Butler, which has been dominating the box office for the past two weeks since its release. If One Direction's movie beats The Butler in the box office, I will officially lose all faith in humanity, and probably scream.
