The 5 Most Stunning Looks From Rome Film Festival

by Alexa Tucker

The Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma (AKA the Rome Film Festival if, like me, you don't speak Italian but desperately want to,) took place this weekend, and while it didn't bring out as much star power as bigger fests like Tribeca and Sundance do, it did bring out some major red carpet power. From Elie Saab to Armani, romantic gowns to more modern styles, the attendees definitely brought it. I'm still swooning.

Among the films that premiered at the event were Trash, starring Rooney Mara, and Love, Rosie starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin (who obviously looked drool-worthy, although I could not tell you a single thing he was wearing.) With the lineup of films and actresses that attended to promote their work, it’s no surprise that there were some serious stunners.

These looks have me so pumped for awards season to be in full swing. To be totally honest, I don’t really care about watching the actual shows — the day of the show is more like Christmas Eve. Because the next day is when I really get to dig in to the comprehensive red carpet arrivals slideshows. Come to mama, Oscars gowns. While I eagerly await the “who wore what” news of awards season fashion, these five looks are tiding me over.

5. Rooney Mara

I'm calling it now: this is the year of the red carpet crop top. And not like Teen Choice Awards or VMAs red carpets. Like, actual red carpets. (Remember Sarah Hyland's stunning Emmy's look?) Rooney Mara took it up a notch with a touch of sheer in her Balenciaga SS2015 ensemble, and it worked. And that skirt? Want. I love her hairstyle, too — I'm tempted to call it normcore, but it totally works with this look.

4. Nicoletta Romanoff

Full disclose: I had no idea who Nicoletta Romanoff was before I came across her Rome Film Festival look, but I don't even care. I love the Italian actress' classic romantic gown, even though I don't think I could wear it myself: I'd probably get sick on the red carpet on account of not being able to stop spinning. (Really, how fun does this Armani dress look to twirl in.)

3. Lily Collins

Again with the crop top. Even though this was a photo call for her film Love, Rosie rather than an actual red carpet moment, I love a crop top with a high waisted pant. The Queen of the Eyebrows (so jealous) made a fantastic choice with the crisp fabric and elegant shade of cream.

2. Dayane Mello

Again, I have to admit that I had no idea who this Italian model was before seeing the dress. But this look is absolutely phenomenal — I'm such a sucker for tulle. It's got a little high-low thing going on without being an actual high-low dress, which keeps the dress from being too sexy. And just look at that detailing...

1. Lily Collins (Again)

THIS DRESS, THOUGH. Lily Collins absolutely nailed it in this purple-hued Elie Saab number at the Love, Rosie premiere. This dress is honestly a dream, and Lily wore it like it was made for her. The cascading fabric, the geometric open back, the skinny belt around the waist — this is absolutely in the running for my favorite look of the 2014/2015 award season. I almost didn't even notice Sam Claflin in this photo, and that is saying something about how captivating this gown is.
