LC's Costume DIY Will Give You Halloween Envy

by Erin Mayer

As a relatively un-crafty person, I find myself experiencing DIY FOMO all the time. Lauren Conrad's epic mermaid Halloween costume, which she revealed on Instagram Tuesday, is seriously not helping my condition. It's one of the most gorgeous costumes I've ever seen, and the fact that she made it herself using seashells, needle, and thread machine makes the outfit all the more impressive.

From what we can tell so far, LC's costume is composed of a strapless, shell-covered bustier and green sequined high-waisted skirt — um, I mean fins — that falls to the floor in a poof of tulle. No word yet on what her hair and makeup situation will be, but seeing as Halloween is literally around the corner, I'm sure we'll be seeing the completed look pop up on social media soon. Conrad hinted at what her costume would be awhile back when she posted this photo of shells scattered on a marble countertop, captioned "Working on my Halloween costume..."

If you happen to have a lot of time (and shells) on your hands between now and tomorrow night, Conrad posted the instructions for the mermaid costume on her blog. Check out the final product below (prepare to be very jealous, unless your DIY skills are significantly better than mine).

As for me, I'll be sticking to my original one-step costume plan, which is to buy a Duraflame and go as the Log Lady from Twin Peaks. No sewing required!
