HBO's 'True Detective' Trailer: Matthew McConaughey Stars in Your New Creepy Obsession

HBO has released its first trailer for the upcoming series True Detective, starring the twangy pairing of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as two Louisiana detectives. Premiering next year, the eight-episode season will follow the detectives as they search for a serial killer. Check out the short teaser below:

Though there is no dialogue, it's easy to tell the series will bring the scares. Think more The Killing than Law & Order. Between the quick cuts of images at unsettling angles and frog sounds in the background, it's clear we're not on Bourbon Street anymore. 

But it's also a good sign that HBO isn't relying on star power to promote True Detective, as McConaughey and Harrelson's names aren't shown until the final few seconds, and we only see the actors for a moment. We're gonna need a more substantial trailer before making too much of a judgement, but right now, True Detective has our attention.
