10 Lana Lyrics Probably Written By an Angsty Teen

Let me preface by saying I love Lana Del Rey. But just because I love her as an artist doesn't mean I can't think some of the lyrics in her songs are a little teenage angsty. Sometimes when I am listening to her music I feel as if I am scrolling through a 14-year-old's Tumblr where posts alternate between Lana Del Rey lyrics and black and white photos of scenic forests. Basically, I feel like I am living in Twilight.

Unfortunately, after realizing some of her lyrics are a little angsty, I couldn't unhear the lyrics and see them as anything but. Because misery loves company, here are 10 Lana Del Rey lyrics that were probably written by an angsty teen. We still love you, Lana.

"Ride"

I am alone in midnight/ Been trying hard not to get into trouble, but I/ I got a war on my mind.

Dark thoughts, dark night. Angst.

"Off To The Races"

Because I'm crazy, baby/ I need you to come here and save me.

"Born 2 Die"

Don't make me sad, don't make me cry/ Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough, I don't know why.

Straight from an 8th graders journal (if journals exist in 2014?)

"Body Electric"

I pretend I'm not hurt/ I go about the world like I'm havin' fun.

Pain.

"Fake Diamond"

I'm like a child who belongs to nobody.

This teen later grows up to tattoo this on their ribcage.

"Shades of Cool"

But you are invincible/ I can't break through your world/ 'Cause you live in shades of cool.

"Dark Paradise"

All my friends tell me I should move on/ I'm lying in the ocean, singing your song.

Picture this line superimposed over a person floating in a remote lake (black and white, of course).

"Ultraviolence"

He used to call me poison/ Like I was poison ivy/ I could have died right there/ Cause he was right beside me.

Definitely would have been written in my composition notebook for Language Arts.

"Pretty When You Cry"

'Cause I'm pretty when I cry/ I'm pretty when I cry.

On repeat.

"Bel Air"

"Gargoyles standing at the front of your gate/ Trying to tell me to wait/ But I can't wait to see you.

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." - Kelly Clarkson
