Leighton Breaks Every Fashion Rule With This One

She's certainly left Blair Waldorf (and the Upper East Side) behind her. Leighton Meester premiered her new film, Life Partners, on Wednesday night in Hollywood, and wore a dress that I want to hate so badly but just can't. She pretty much makes some major fashion no-no's and looks impeccable in the process, so shedding her Gossip Girl alter-ego seems to be the best thing for her style. No need to hide behind the headbands and bows, anymore.

Mixing patterns? Stripes make you look fat? Don't wear white after labor day? Check, yep, got that one — but Meester's black-and-white Cushnie et Ochs dress is everything you'll hate to love. The mix-matched vertical and horizontal stripes combined with the panels in alternating directions look like a high-fashion version of Beetlejuice, or one of those online optical illusions that you stare at for 30 seconds and something horrifying pops out of your screen to scare you senseless, but it's still so fantastic. Maybe it's because of her killer body, or the pop of red lips and nails, or the fact that it should not work but totally does, but everything wrong with this look is so right, and you can't take your eyes off it. (And don't worry, nothing creepy will pop out at you this time — I checked).
