2014 has undoubtedly been the year of Ariana Grande. I know this pint-sized powerhouse has been on the scene for about four years (since Victorious began in 2010), but 2014 was definitely one of her biggest years to date. From her show Sam & Cat being canceled (much to fans' dismay), major diva rumors surfacing, and a number one album, there have been points in the year where all I talked about was Ariana Grande.
And I'm not complaining. I am a big fan of Grande. In all honesty, I haven't been a fan of her since "the very beginning" (so I am not someone who claims to have "loved her before anyone knew about her"), but I have recently grown to become someone who really admires her work, and the person that she presents to fans. Since growing to love Grande over the past year, I have noticed that there are a lot of people who love to pick her apart. Over and over again, the same things about Grande are brought up by haters, and I know Kelly Clarkson says, "What doesn't kill me makes me stronger," but damn, some of these Ariana Grande comments are getting old.
1. "I Heard She's A Huge Diva"
Rumors surfaced during the summer that Grande was a huge diva in a tiny package. Here's my take on all of that: I don't know if those are true or not, but I do know there's a lot to gain in telling media outlets an exaggerated story. All of the stories started to snowball later this year, which could be because Grande had crossed too many people as of recent, or sources saw an opportunity to attack.
2. "She's Just A Mini-Mariah"
What she said. Getting compared to Mariah Carey is a huge compliment, but you can't blame Grande for wanting to be known for her work as Ariana Grande, not a mini-Mariah Carey.
3. "Why Is Her Hair Like That?"
Why is your hair the way it is? She found a style that became her signature and she ran with it. If I found a hairstyle that actually worked for me, I would wear my hair like that every damn day.
4. "But Is That The Only Way She Wears Her Hair?"
No. Just no.
5. "She Thinks She Is A Cat, I Think"
Sure, Grande has been wearing these (and another variations) for some time now, but I don't see what's wrong with that. If you can pull off wearing cat ears without looking crazy, then you wear those cat ears.
6. "She Sounds Wounded, Not Like She Is Singing"
What? What? Denying that Ariana Grande can sing is just wrong. There is a reason that she is compared to Mariah Carey — these two have some quality lungs.
7. "She's Just Another Teeny Bopper"
Well, I'm in my 20s and love her so... I don't think that's a very sound argument. Any age group can appreciate her vocals.
8. "It Seems Like She Doesn't Care About Her Fans"
Read this and tell me she doesn't care about her fans.
9. "She Isn't Multi-Talented, Though"
I'll admit, her dancing skills leave a little to be desired, but she is most certainly multi-talented. Before Grande became chart topper Ariana Grande, she was an actor on Victorias and Sam & Cat, which proved that she is more than just a voice.
10. "Isn't She A Little Young To Be Wearing Glittery Leotards?"
Actually, Grande is 21-years-old, and she can wear whatever the fresh hell she wants! Recently, Bette Midler said that Grande was essentially whoring herself out, which is so wrong on so many levels. Don't be like Bette Midler.
11. "She Takes Herself Way Too Seriously"
Tell that to her cannon boobs.
