'RHOBH's Yolanda Didn't Go Easy on Daughter Bella

by Laura Rosenfeld

sonastyandsorudeNo mother wants to learn that her daughter has been arrested for a DUI, let alone receive that news in front of millions on national TV. But that's exactly what happened to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Yolanda Foster during the Dec. 9 episode of the Bravo reality show. And it definitely put a damper on her vacation. To recap, in the last episode Yolanda received a call from her husband David while she was partying it up on a yacht in Majorca (sadly with no Below Deck crew in sight) with fellow Housewife Kyle Richards and her family. Though the previews of the episode made it seem like the call would be bad news about Yolanda's ailing mother, it ended up being something else entirely but still pretty bad. Yolanda learned that her daughter Bella Hadid had been arrested for a DUI.

Needless to say, Yolanda was very upset about the whole incident. She was disappointed and especially hurt because her father had been killed in a car accident when she was only 7 years old. There's nothing like your child getting arrested for a DUI to cut your vacation short, and if the preview of the Dec. 16 episode of RHOBH is any indication, Yolanda is raring to go and get home so she can see what's up and take care of this whole thing, i.e. punish Bella.

The news of Bella's arrest came so quickly and abruptly at the end of the Dec. 9 episode of RHOBH that it's still not totally clear what went down. Here's what you need to know about the incident, the status of Bella's arrest, and what she's up to now.

What Happened?

On July 22, 2014, Bella was arrested by police in the early hours of the morning after she was driving on the Pacific Coast Highway in California when she reportedly drove past a stop sign and nearly collided with an L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. patrol car, according to E! News. The police pulled her over, took her in, and gave her a breathalyzer test, during which TMZ reports she allegedly blew a .14, nearly twice the legal drinking limit. Even though Bella had more alcohol in her system than is permitted, she was 17 at the time of the arrest, which means having any alcohol in her body was illegal. Later that day, Bella was released to her stepdad David.

Did Bella Go To Jail?

Any jerks out there hoping Bella landed in the slammer after her DUI arrest are going to be disappointed. Although Bella didn't ultimately end up in prison, she had to deal with the wrath, I mean, tough love of Yolanda, who wrote about Bella's legal and parental punishment after her arrest in her recent blog on Bravo's website:

I decided to take her phone away, make her pay for her own lawyer bills from her savings, and we sold her car. The court suspended her license for one year, she received six months probation, and was required to conduct 25 hours of community service and 20 hours of AA meetings.

If you thought Bella was a spoiled rich kid, think again. Judging by Yolanda's reaction to the news of Bella's DUI on RHOBH, you could just see in her eyes that she was going to whip Bella into shape once she returned home from vacation, and clearly she did.

Yolanda's scare tactics must have worked, because now only 18 years old, Bella is working hard at making a name for herself. By day, she is a freshman studying photography at Parsons The New School for Design. By night, she's a model who has has a contract with IMG, which also represents her older sister Gigi. In case you didn't know, they get their modeling chops from their mama. Other modeling highlights for Bella so far include a New York Fashion Week debut in the Desigual runway show and donning the cover of French magazine Jalouse.

Well, you certainly gave us all a scare, Bella, but it sounds like you're going to be just fine.
