The 14 Best 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special Moments
Is there anything better than the annual Doctor Who Christmas special? I think not. I mean, they've got everything — literal aliens, the occasional Victorian gown, updated takes on our most well-loved tales (hello, "The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe" and "A Christmas Carol" ). Heck, they've even got the Space Titanic, which is right up there with the Space Orient Express, IMHO. I mean, sure, there were some duds in there (especially the infamously unpopular angsty years of the Tenth Doctor, with a special assist from John Simm's radioactive Master), but all in all? They're kind of unbeatable for pure awesomeness factor.
This year's special ("Last Christmas" — okay, that title is just begging us to sing the song. Seriously, was that intentional?) promises to be pretty darn spectacular. It's Peter Capaldi's first holiday show, which is certainly cause for celebration, and it features Nick Frost as Santa Claus. Yep, Santa Claus is finally, finally making an appearance on the show, after years of allusions — it should be a very special Christmas special indeed.
Anyway, to celebrate the impending arrival of the tenth annual Christmas special, here's a little list of the best moments in New Who specials, from "Christmas Invasion" to "The Snowmen," in no particular order:
1. That Time Rose Tyler Was Almost Killed by a Christmas Tree
Oh yes.
2. All the Shippiness in "The Snowmen"
I basically live for shipping, so this episode was everything I could ever ask for.
3. The Double Allons-y
Iconic.
4. Allons-y, Alonso
Perhaps even more iconic.
5. When Eleven Played Santa
The face says it all.
6. Kazran/Abigail
DW's take on "A Christmas Carol" was way underrated — Kazran and Abigail were so adorably tragic.
7. When This Happened
The naked gag was hilarious, if a bit nonsensical.
8. The Creepy Santas
I'll be honest, I don't really remember the context here.
9. The Creepy Angels
Haters gonna hate.
10. Ten's Farewell Tour
Say what you will about "The End of Time," but Ten's farewell tour was perfect.
11. Wilf, In General
No explanation needed.
12. Pretty Much All of "The Christmas Invasion"
"Look at these people, these human beings. Consider their potential! From the day they arrive on the planet, blinking, step into the sun, there is more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than - no, hold on. Sorry, that's The Lion King..."
13. Eleven's Farewell
CREYS.
MORE CREYS.
14. Eleven's Reunion with The Ponds
EVEN MORE CREYS.
What are your favorite moments from the Christmas specials? What are you looking forward to from Thursday's new episode? Personally, I'm looking forward to Clara kissing the Doctor on the cheek, but I digress... No matter what's to come, it's sure to be amazing!
