Who Would Be the Best Han Solo in 'Force Awakens'?

by Maitri Suhas

Sometimes I think about how heartbroken Aaron Paul is that Breaking Bad is over and it makes my own heart twinge a little. But if the rumors are true that sweet, naive Jesse Pinkman might be playing a young Han Solo in a Star Wars spin-off prequel of sorts. Star Wars: The Force Awakens might be the most hyped movie of 2015, even though it's about a year away. Though at first it faced reactions that ranged from excited to disgusted, the JJ Abrams reboot has reached a comfortable level of general acceptance from serious fans to the layman who really loves Ewoks.

So what's the word on this spin-off? There aren't any details yet, except that it will exist and Paul may or may not be playing Han Solo. They're big, handsome shoes to fill — Harrison Ford in that open shirt with his scruff and his devil-may-care sarcasm with a heart of gold is a veritable swoon-worthy icon. Aaron Paul is pretty adorable himself, but even his hard around the edges run as Jesse Pinkman might not be able to stand up to the challenge. Then again, who knows? He could surprise us.

Here are some other young guns that might do well as a young Solo, because why not keep options open?

Ansel Elgort

He might be a little bit of a pretty boy to play a young Harrison Ford, but that lopsided smile and his charm make up for it.

Evan Peters

Though he's best known for all his freaky antics on American Horror Story, Peters as Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past is a pretty good reflection of Han Solo's swagger: wily, sarcastic, but ultimately, absolutely one of the good guys.

Nicholas Hoult

I don't think people talk about Nicholas Hoult enough. I've loved him ever since Skins, where he played a charming bad boy Tony Stonem. I guess technically I've loved him since he was a kid with a bowl cut in About a Boy singing "shake your ass, watch yourself." He's got that whole bad-but-you-love-him thing going on, and he's been in his fair share of action movies (also in X-Men!)

Josh Hutcherson

Because what is he gonna do after Hunger Games?! He's so gentle as Peeta, but maybe he could turn a little darker to play Han Solo. Oddly enough, to me, he resembles Harrison Ford quite a bit.

Chris Pratt

I mean... wasn't Starlord just a version of Han Solo anyway?

Christian Bale

If we're talking about gruff dudes, Bale is the gruffest of the gruff. This might not make so much sense, but did it make sense for him to play Moses? Nah.

Shia LaBeouf

LOL, JK.
