Witherspoon & Damon Are About To Be Co-Stars

by Alanna Bennett

I feel like I've been waiting for this for a long time: Reese Witherspoon is reuniting with Election director Alexander Payne. She'll be starring alongside fellow superstar Matt Damon in Payne's upcoming film Downsizing. So what can we expect from this team-up?

According to The Wrap this is a movie whose title fits its title pretty well — and sounds downright kooky, if I do say so myself.

The long-gestating dramedy takes place in a not-so-distant alternate future in which humans have perfected shrinking themselves as a means of saving resources — namely money.
Damon’s character will consider undergoing the process when he finds himself down on his luck.

Hmmm. OK. So...like a prestige movie version of Ant-Man?

A lot less is known about Witherspoon's character than even the little bit we know about Damon's; we just know she'll be playing the female lead.

Witherspoon seems to be manufacturing a career resurgence for herself, so I'm personally hoping this means she'll start making more choices like she did in her Pleasantville days — that, too, was a movie with a pretty kooky concept, after all. But it paid off pretty well, and her last team-up with Payne in Election still has a place in the cult film-lovers heart.
