Katy Perry's New Song Is So '90s

by Tanya Ghahremani

With the release date fast-approaching, Katy Perry is continuing to promote her upcoming album, Prism, with the debut of new singles. The latest? Perry has just released a track called "Walking on Air," which seems to be a retro-inspired, disco kind of song more suited for a club in the early-to-mid '90s than today. To be specific, it sort of sounds like it would be played at The Roxbury in the movie A Night at the Roxbury. Which is awesome. With lyrics like, "You're reading me like erotica/ boy, you make me feel exotic, yeah," the song is certainly Perry's brand of sexy — she's so happy in this new love, that she feels as if it's making her walk on air.

The song is totally power pop-inspired too, which is pretty much in line with what Perry told MTV last month of her hopes for this particular song: "I was like I really want to bring that authentic '90s deep house song styling back." Apparently, she was inspired greatly by CeCe Peniston's hit 1991 single, "Finally," which, for the record, is just about as '90s as it gets.

You can check out Perry's new song, "Walking on Air," below. Perry's fourth album, Prism, is set to hit stores on Oct. 22.
