BAFTA 2015 Dresses Are Elegant, Ethereal And Timeless Statements Of Sartorial Grace

With the lead-up to the Grammys this evening, some of you may have forgotten that across the pond another awards ceremony is currently being held: The 68th annual British Academy Film And Television Arts Awards. As something of a prelude to the Oscars, the BAFTAs are another occasion meant to celebrate true grandeur in film — and year after year, this independent charity gives kudos where kudos are deserved. Amongst this year's film nominees are Gone Girl, The Theory of Everything, Birdman, Boyhood, Big Eyes and more — and, of course, the women involved in the creation of these blockbuster beauties are being rightfully honored, too.

Like any awards ceremony, we look forward to the red carpet. But what's special about the BAFTAs is the elegance maintained throughout the ceremony. Something about this particular occasion — maybe it has something to do with being held in London — brings out the sophisticated glamour in its female attendees, and this year's red carpet event is no different. Just see for yourself:

Julianne Moore

Nominated for “Leading Actress” for her role in Still Alice, Julianne Moore couldn’t look more spectacular in this red Tom Ford gown. Everything from the deep neckline to the collar detailing is unique, sophisticated and almost surreal.

Keira Knightley

Known for keeping things interesting on the red carpet (never forget that Chanel butterfly dress) Keira never disappoints me. Her Giambattista Valli gown tonight is no different. The black and white color scheme is truly timeless, but the ruffled floral detailing of the gown is unique and splendid.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams always seems to look like a vintage beauty on any red carpet, and this Stella McCartney gown keeps in tune with her typical style. The end result: Perfection.

Reese Witherspoon

Like Amy, Reese wore Stella McCartney to tonight’s awards. The deep violet hue of her gown complemented her complexion and understated beauty look so effortlessly that it almost hurts.

Rosamund Pike

I don’t know what’s more impeccable: Rosamund’s role in Gone Girl or Rosamund in this monochromatic Roland Mouret gown. With her lob, minimalist makeup and haltered collar, she looks just like the beauty of a vintage postcard.

Laura Haddock

English actress Laura Haddock has brought true fairytale glamour to tonight’s awards. I just can’t believe this gown. Every part of me is currently swimming in princess envy.

Patricia Arquette

Winner of Best Supporting Actress for Boyhood, Patricia Arquette also stunned in a deep burgundy gown. She’s picture-perfect — never ceasing to captivate.

Hayley Atwell

British-American actress Hayley Atwell killed it in this side-mesh bodycon dress. Unlike many of her fellow attendees, Hayley opted for something a little more sexy — a little more “broody vixen.”

Romola Garai

Perhaps the most unconventional color scheme of the evening, Romola certainly looked intriguing in Roksanda Ilincic. The pale green and salmon hues of her ensemble aren’t two colors that you’d normally consider cohesive. But I’m willing to say it works!

Felicity Jones

The Theory of Everything actress Felicity Jones donned one of the most memorable looks of the evening. This floral embellished Dior gown continues in Laura Haddock’s princess style, but with a more subdued, modern twist.

Lea Seydoux

French actress Lea Seydoux stunned in an all-yellow, timelessly-silhouetted masterpiece.

Kristin Scott Thomas

Not unlike Rosamund Pike, Kristin Scott Thomas dazzled in classic all-black at tonight’s awards — looking demure as ever.

Monica Belluci

Continuing the all-black trend, Italian actress and model Monica Belluci couldn’t have looked more sultry and perfect. Her look was elegant, yet edgy. Classic, yet fun.

Olivia Grant

Olivia Grant may have been channelling her first film Stardust tonight in her sequined, shimmery pink gown. This is the dress of my dreams (well, of the dreams of childhood me, anyway).

Gugu Mbatha-Raw

British stage and film actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw was another timeless beauty tonight — the light lilac of this gown pretty much the world’s prettiest hue.

Dianna Agron

Wearing Lanvin, Dianna Agron is pretty much the embodiment of a red carpet look, from the deep red hue of her gown to that graceful up-do.

Natalie Dormer

Natalie Dormer’s gloves threw Twitter into something of a buzz today, but I kind of like ‘em. They add a certain kind of quirk to an otherwise traditionally chic ensemble.

Rachel Riley

English TV presenter Rachel Riley wore probably the most gorgeous shade of turquoise the red carpet has ever seen at tonight’s BAFTAs.

Julie Walters

Oh, Julie Walters — calling to mind the flapper vibe so perfectly in this all-over sequin-embellished gown.

Anne-Marie Duff

Shameless actress Anne-Marie Duff wore my future wedding gown tonight — now, where do I find it?
