Emma Watson's 'Beauty & The Beast' Adds A New Face

by Alanna Bennett

Things are shaping up for Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. The film was announced alongside Emma Watson's starring role as Belle, but it wasn't until Wednesday that the first non-Watson cast member was announced. But now we've got our Gaston: Luke Evans is joining Beauty and the Beast .

Even though this news was just announced, I already have a few questions for Evans as he gears up for this important role as Gaston in the film:

  • Can he eat four dozen eggs every morning to help him get as large as Gaston is supposed to be?
  • Is he ready to become roughly the size of a barge?
  • Is he up on his Macbeth references for Gaston's final hunt song?
  • In other words, is he ready to screw his courage to the sticking place?

Evans recently starred in Dracula Untold (as Vlad), and in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug as Bard/Girion. This time around he'll be playing the not-so-nice Gaston, the man from Belle's hometown who doggedly pursues her. There's no word yet on who will be playing the Beast, but this casting is a good sign that we'll be hearing news on that front relatively soon.

As Watson's initial announcement of her casting as Belle in the film indicates, this live-action version will likely be a musical, a la the Disney animated film. Gaston's songs are two of my favorite in the whole thing, so you bet I'm already super ready for that. Now, we just need to know who's playing his LeFou!
