Lorde Sweetly Shows Support For Bullying Victim

by Kenya Foy

Somehow, eating anything sweet has the ability to change the course of a crappy day, help with heartbreak or soothe hurt feelings, but I imagine the cupcakes Lorde sent to bullying victim Joe Irvine — who is now a contestant on New Zealand's X Factor — tasted sweeter than normal. According to US Weekly reports, Lorde showed her support for Irvine in a (literally) sweet way after his rendition of Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" didn't go over so well with judges Natalia Kills and Willy Moon. The professional singers (who have since been dismissed from the show) completely slammed Irvine's performance, pegging it as "cheap," "disgusting," "absurd" and even "atrocious." Ouch.

Lorde obviously sympathized with Irvine, which prompted her to deliver the cupcakes along with a handwritten letter that read, "Hi Joe, Just wanted to say: Your individuality, positive energy, and spirit are infectious." She continued, "I think you're doing an awesome job on the show so far. I'm a performer too, and I wanted to say that no matter how many people make fun of me for how I dress, move, and act, I'm being me — and that's what's important." The 18-year-old singer then closed with, "Good luck and lots of love, Lorde."

Hopefully Lorde's refreshingly sincere show of support helped Irvine recover from such harsh critiques. But one thing the "Yellow Flicker Beat" singer's gesture definitely managed to do is give everyone yet another reason to adore her — and it's not the one one, either:

When She Let a Random Guy Believe She Was Taylor Swift's Manager

Way to handle this egregious breach of awards show conduct, Lorde.

When She Defended Taylor Swift Against Diplo's Insults

The manner in which Lorde flexed her defensive Twitter skills against Diplo was absolute perfection.

The Time She Totally Didn't Sweat That South Park Spoof

Instead of ranting, writing an angry song or melting into a puddle of tears, Lorde took the South Park spoofs in stride by tweeting "i have officially been the subject of 2 south park episodes and that is weird and cool."

The Time She Entertained Fans on Reddit

Things got interesting when Lorde took to Reddit for a Q&A, as the singer kindly revealed everything from her obsession with teeth to what kind of shampoo she uses.

When She Apologized Profusely For Canceling Australian Tour Dates

Clearly, Lorde felt extremely bad about missing her tour but the fact that she explained the need to regain her "gollum girl fitness" made her even more lovable.

When She Explained Feminism

Lorde's take on feminism is too awesome to be paraphrased. She told the Huffington Post, "A lot of girls think it’s not shaving under their arms and burning bras and hating boys, which just seems stone age to me."

Any and Every Time She Dances

Yeah Lorde's spastic choreography tends to get a little weird at times, but to love Lorde is to love her dancing.
