'Pretty Little Liars' Showrunner I. Marlene King Casts Belle Thorne In New Book Adaptation All About Being Famous
If you loved her in The DUFF, then get ready to see even more of Bella Thorne — hopefully. With Pretty Little Liars ending after Season 7, showrunner I. Marlene King is going to need another project with which to captivate and thrill the audience. (And with which to show off the kind of fashion that makes us all envy everyone's closets.) Well, don't despair, PLL fans. According to Deadline, King is developing a Bella Thorne-led pilot that will be an adaptation of Rebecca Serle's Famous In Love .
The romance novel tells the story of "a girl who gets plucked from obscurity to star in the next major feature film franchise based on a book and the ensuing love triangles she gets entangled in on — and off screen." So, basically, it will be the most meta show on television since Community. Serle will serve as an executive producer on the series, and Thorne will star as main character Paige Townsen. There's no word yet on who will be playing her on-screen and off-screen co-stars Rainer Devon and Jordan Wilder, but the series already has the makings of the kind of show that will have people as addicted as they were to, say, Gossip Girl.
But don't take my word for it. Even with details as scarce as they are, there are already four good reasons to be excited for Famous In Love.
The show is all about a small town girl who becomes famous... so does that mean there's an opening for actual celebrity cameos in the episodes? And can I already start theorizing who those celebrity cameos should be? Who doesn't love watching celebrities play themselves in TV shows?
2. Social Media
I don't need to tell you how social media is an ingrained part of our lives at this point. Just like Sherlock made texting in a TV show cool and trendy, and Eye Candy made social media as ubiquitous as it is without us even noticing, and Gossip Girl made it cool for some omnipotent gossip blog to be watching your every move, so can Famous In Love combine all of that to amazing effect.
2. Sizzling Love Triangles
Will we be Team Rainer or Team Jordan? It doesn't matter how the book actually ended; what matters is that we'll be caught in a love triangle between two amazing leading men just like Paige. Personally, I've been over love triangles for a while, but I understand and acknowledge their uses as a dramatic tool.
4. Bella Thorne
After The DUFF, do I even need to explain why this is the biggest draw of all? I didn't think so.
