Celine Dion Opens Up About Husband's Cancer Battle

by Arielle Dachille

If you're like me, you adore Celine Dion for a few reasons that include, but are not limited to, the following: her French Canadian accent, the fact that she's gloriously goofy on stage, and her strong-as-hell pipes. Hence, when Celine Dion is sad, you're sad. In a recent interview, Celine Dion opened up about her husband's cancer and got a little emotional. At the same time, she showed that she's basically a powerhouse of a human being.

Last August, the extraordinary songstress announced that she was going on leave from showbiz to help care for her 73-year-old husband René Angélil, who suffers from throat cancer. Angélil, her husband of over 20 years and former manager, was diagnosed with the condition in 1999, as Entertainment Tonight reports. He was in remission until 2013, when doctors discovered a tumor in his throat, which they removed.

Dion sat down with Good Morning America recently and opened up about the day-to-day battle of her husband's recovery. When she discussed the struggle of feeding her husband, she began to tear up. She said:

He can’t use his mouth. He can’t eat. So I feed him. He has a feeding tube. I have to feed him three times a day.

GUH! Feelings, right?

Undoubtedly, Dion and Angélil have faced a difficult struggle, one that may be ongoing. No matter what your socioeconomic status is, it's a profoundly upsetting thing to see someone you're close to become incapable of doing the things that were once second nature. Especially when you're taking care of the person every day, it's emotionally draining. Dion is obviously a tank for sticking this out, while continuing with her own career. That's right, she will be resuming her Caesar's Palace Las Vegas residency this coming August.
