Gordon May Have A Big Secret On 'S.H.I.E.L.D.'

by Alice Walker

Is Skye's mom really dead on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? The more we get to know Gordon and explore the Inhumans universe, the more I wonder. This may seem kind of crazy, but stay with me for a moment: it's commonly accepted that Skye's mom died on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D . We know she was an Inhuman with the ability to never age, or at least age super slowly. We know that Daniel Whitehall took out all her organs (not cool, Whitehall) and left her for dead. We know that Cal thinks she is dead, and told Skye as much. We know that she was close with Gordon and helped him through his own transformation. What if she had the power to regenerate her organs somehow, and was actually alive and well — and what if Gordon is hiding Skye's mom at the mysterious place he took Skye to at the end of last week's episode?

Crazier things have happened on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and resurrections wouldn't be anything new for the show. It seems entirely possible (if not downright plausible) that Gordon or another Inhuman could have found Jiaying after she was left in China and helped her regenerate. She could have been taken to an Inhuman safe house, with years to heal and recover. With her power and all of the unknown abilities of the Inhumans, it doesn't seem like such a stretch that she could have survived the attack and hidden herself from Hydra.

Jiaying also could have sought out Cal after she had healed, but witnessed one of his terrifying Dr. Jekyll-like rage fits. Maybe she saw all that violence and decided she didn't want him to know that she was still alive — I mean ripping people apart is bound to put a damper on a romantic reunion. Cal has obviously changed a lot since they were happy together, maybe she decided he wasn't the same person and couldn't know that she was alive. But if that's true the question remains — why didn't she find Skye instead of leaving her with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the foster system?

I'm sure that question would immediately come to mind if Skye ever got the chance to meet her mother, which she may if she's at Gordon's home. Or compound. Or school for gifted youngsters. Or whatever he is calling it. Hopefully, this means that Skye may actually have a shot at a family reunion that isn't held at gunpoint and followed by death and destruction, a welcome change after she met Cal. I really hope this is the case, as Skye is going through such a hard time right now. After being separated from Coulson she could really use some parental guidance. Some non-crazy advice, and maybe a hug. Is that so much to ask?
