If there's one New Girl character that will forever hold a special place in all of our hearts, nine out of ten times people will choose the lovably quirky, kimono-wearing Schmidt. There's just simply no one else like him out there and that's all thanks to Max Greenfield's phenomenal portrayal. I recently had the chance to chat with Greenfield himself about New Girl, regarding any juicy Season 4 spoilers he could divulge. (And believe me, there were some really great ones!) However, our conversation took a very interesting turn when we began discussing his recent appearance as Lee on The Mindy Project, which is when the actor revealed how much he'd love to guest star on FOX's newest breakout series. You know which one I'm referring to.
"I’d like to be on Empire," Greenfield states. And just like that, a delicious new crossover idea is born. I mean, just picture it: Schmidt and Cookie sharing the same screen together. Is there really anything better than that? Even Greenfield was in awe at the mere idea of such a pairing. "Oh my god, can you imagine? What a dynamic duo." Seriously, though, just take a minute to let that potential scenario sink in. I don't just want this to happen, I now need this to happen, and soon.
Of course, I wouldn't want it to interfere with his New Girl schedule in any way. But given that Greenfield has taken on many other projects throughout the show's run — which even includes a recent partnership with the real estate site, Trulia — I have no doubt this guy would be more than able to make it work. So just for fun and to help give those Empire writers a little helpful nudge, I've come up with a list of reasons as to why this would be an all-time epic match up. But like you didn't already know that.
The Fashion Would Be Insanely Awesome
Between the kimonos and all the leopard print, I'd say they'd be able to take the fashion industry by storm in no time at all.
Dance Parties Would Be Mandatory & Often
You can't learn moves like that. You have to be born with them.
They Could Educate Each Other
Schmidt could do a great job at explaining everything that Cookie's missed since she was in prison, and in return, Cookie could teach Schmidt all about the music industry. The way I see it, this is a win-win situation right here.
Pop Culture References Would Be An Every Day Occurrence
And that is so not a bad thing. In fact, it's pretty perfect, actually.
Their Reputations Speak For Themselves
So come on, Empire. Let's make this happen, shall we?
