Here's Christian Grey For Real This Time

by Kate Ward

Fifty Shades of Grey's grey area just became a little bit clearer. Just a little over 10 days after Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the role of billionaire S&M purveyor Christian Grey, a new, much more fresh-faced actor has seemed to step into the part. On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter reported 33-year-old Irish actor Jamie Dornan will star in Fifty Shades of Grey .

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is currently in negotiations for the role, but Universal is hoping to land Dornan after watching him screen test opposite Dakota Johnson, the former Ben & Kate star playing Anastasia Steele. Dornan even reportedly beat out the Tony-nominated Billy Magnussen, despite the latter's impressive pecs. (Other actors who didn't make the cut following rumors of their possible casting: True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard and Clint Eastwood spawn Scott Eastwood.)

But, certainly, Dornan seems much more suited to suit up as Christian Grey, so here's hoping this casting sticks. Unlike Hunnam — who left the project following curious and not-at-all-likely "scheduling" conflicts — Dornan seems to deliver the far darker and more dangerous vibe that E.L. James described her titular erotic hero possessing. (Even if, still, Ian Somerhalder was robbed of the Fifty Shades role yet again. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson, what do you have against Damon Salvatore?) After all, Dornan has indeed flirted with the dark side, playing a a serial killer on BBC's The Fall.

But what about the rest of Dornan's (ahem) body of work? The actor — who, it should be noted, also appeared nude in The Fall — also played The Huntsman in Once Upon a Time, and appeared in a small role in 2006's Marie Antoinette. But Dornan is still fairly green in the industry — and stands to make a lot of green with a Fifty Shades franchise under his belt. But first, it's time to see what's actually under his belt.
