It's Kate Upton vs 4 Men For MTV's Shirtless Prize

by Kaitlin Reilly

I know it's not the Oscars or anything, but damn, I adore the MTV Movie Awards. It's one of the few awards shows that celebrate movies instead of just films and while I can be a snob about the latter, I absolutely love my popcorn flicks. And really, how can you argue with the ridiculousness of categories like "Best Kiss" and "Best Scared As S**t Performance"? You can't. The one category that's really breaking barriers this year? The MTV Movie Awards' Best Shirtless Performance category. While it features male hotties like Ansel Elgort (nominated for his sex scene in The Fault In Our Stars, naturally) and Zac Efron (not like you couldn't see those abs through his shirt, but whatever), one nominee is breaking the mold. Kate Upon is nominated for Best Shirtless Performance for The Other Woman, and I think she just might beat all the boys.

So is Upton the first female to be nominated in that category? Nope, she's not — but she is only the second woman nominated for the role. Jennifer Aniston was nominated last year for her character's striptease scene in We're The Millers.

The MTV Movie Awards tends to switch up their categories each year to keep things fresh, and the Best Shirtless Performance category has actually only been on the board three times — in 2013, 2014, and now, in 2015. It was only in 2013 when a woman wasn't nominated, which means that the voters clearly realized how sexist that was and insisted on giving a half-naked lady a shot at winning the crown. How thoughtful!

Just in case you were wondering, no, Aniston didn't take home the Best Shirtless Performance trophy in 2014 — that award went to Zac Efron for That Awkward Moment. Aniston may have given us a stellar performance, but you have to admit, Efron is pretty tough competition. Just in case you need a reminder, here's exactly how tough of competition he is:

But maybe you need some more proof...

Maybe another pic, just for good measure.

And, you know, this is really part of the whole collection...

How does anyone stand a chance at winning these things?! Efron is nominated again this year, this time for Neighbors, but I'd still like to see a woman take home the prize. Good luck, Upton.
