What Should I Get At Free Cone Day?

In case you didn't already hear, today is Free Cone Day at Ben and Jerry's. Free ice cream at any and all participating Ben and Jerry's Scoop Shop locations anywhere in the world? Yes, please! The best part about Ben and Jerry's version of this super popular event is that there are no limits on the offer either in terms of how many cones you can get or what flavor you try. That means that after you get your first cone, you can get right back in line for a second, third, fourth, or even seventh one if you want.

But the big conundrum is always this: Which flavor should you pick? There are just so many options! So in order to narrow the field a little bit, I've assembled 12 cones (or cups, depending on your ice cream delivery method preference) you should definitely think about ordering. Obviously these are far from the only choices available — but this list might make a good starting point as you embark on your ice cream-laden adventure.

Pro-tip: If you click on an individual flavor on the list at the Ben and Jerry's website, it will actually tell you whether that flavor is available in Scoop Shops, or whether you can only get it as a pint at grocery stores and other food retailers. You can see how this might be useful for Free Cone Day strategizing, right? And if you're really pressed for time, you can even tell whether you're looking at a Scoop Shop variety or a pint only variety on sight; Scoop Shop flavors are depicted as a scoop in a cup, while pint flavors show the cartons in which they're sold. Handy, no?

So here Knock yourselves out. Find your nearest participating Ben and Jerry's location here, and go get yourselves some ice cream. You deserve it.

1. Spectacular Speculoos

One of the recent additions to the Cores line, Spectacular Speculoos is essentially cookie butter ice cream. Given how magical cookie butter is… well, why wouldn't you want to give it a shot, especially if it's free?

2. The Tonight Dough

Jimmy Fallon's second Ben and Jerry's flavor, the Tonight Dough is basically cookie dough ice cream on steroids: It features caramel and chocolate ice creams with chocolate cookie swirls, gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough, and a few dollops of peanut butter cookie dough. A little rich, perhaps, but what's Free Cone Day for if not for indulging in the ultimate in decadence?

3. Cherry Garcia

It's a classic.

4. Mango Mango Sorbet

Not an ice cream kind of person? Go for some sorbet instead. You could also go the Berry Berry Extraordinary or Lemonade routes, too — but mango is the best, sooooo yeah. Mango it is.

5. Coffee, Coffee, BuzzBuzzBuzz

Get your caffeine fix and satisfy your sweet tooth all in one go. You could also go for plain ol', coffee-flavored ice cream, but I feel the espresso bean fudge chunks might be worth adding on.

6. Wayne'Swirled

I would just like to take this moment to note that a Wayne's World-themed ice cream flavor exists. Think about that for a second.

7. Lazy Sunday

Still mourning the loss of the Starbucks Birthday Cake Frappuccino? Get yourself a cup or cone of Lazy Sunday instead. Vanilla cake batter ice cream with both chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces, plus a chocolate frosting swirl, is just what the doctor ordered.

8. Phish Food

I actually find Phish Food to be a little cloyingly sweet… but I have such a hard time resisting those tiny fudge fishes. Why yes, I still play with my food; why do you ask?

9. Liz Lemon Greek Frozen Yogurt

If anyone would appreciate Free Cone Day, it's Liz Lemon.

10. Americone Dream

So would Stephen Colbert, for that matter.

11. Cotton Candy

Cotton candy-flavored ice cream? I'll admit that I'm not totally sure how that works. Would I try it anyway, though, just to find out? Heck yes.

12. Ruth Bader Ginger

Or maybe not, since it doesn't technically exist yet. But hey, there's always next year, right?
