Amy Schumer Isn't The Only Hollywood It Girl To Take A Fall, But That Hasn't Stopped Us From Loving Them
Funny-girl Amy Schumer has always been a favorite of mine. After getting her big break on NBC's The Last Comic Standing, Schumer took Comedy Central by storm in 2013 with her own comedy sketch show, Inside Amy Schumer. Fresh of her first hosting gig at this year's MTV Movie Awards, you can also catch Schumer this summer in her first film (which she also wrote), Trainwreck, directed by Judd Apatow. Needless to say, Schmer has been one busy lady. And yet, with all of these amazing projects coming out, she isn't afraid to fall... literally. At Tuesday's TIME 100 Gala, Schumer threw herself at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's feet, surrendering to the majesty that is Kimye.
Kardashian seemed amused, but, as usual, West was unimpressed. All of this delightful hoopla got me thinking about all of the times Hollywood's It girls have taken a tumble. From performances that have gone awry, to ill-fated walks on the red-carpet, no woman, no matter how revered, has been exempt from tripping and falling. Since we have all had our own humiliating moments, these embarrassing flubs have made us love these women even more.
Here are some of our favorite ladies who we loved even more upon discovering they are just like us.
J. Law may actually be the queen of falling at high-profile events. First taking a spill as she walked up the stairs to accept her Best Actress award at the 2013 Academy Awards, Lawrence took another dive on the Oscars red carpet the following year. It's all good though; she's still our Mockingjay.
Yes, I know this sounds far-fetched. Having seen Ms. Knowles-Carter in concert myself, it seems unbelievable that she could take a tumble. And yet, Queen B showed she's just as human as the rest of us when she fell down the stairs at a performance in Florida. Despite this small flub, Beyoncé proved that she is always a consummate professional.
Even if you're a super-talented mega star like Taylor Swift, sometimes the road really is treacherous. Known for being quirky and cool, Swift didn't let a nearly disastrous plunge down the stairs keep her from smiling and interacting with her die-hard fans.
Our favorite Bajan Pop Princess could probably care less what we think about her life, let alone her stumbles and dives. This is one of the main reasons why we love her. Despite whatever hiccups life may bring, Rihanna has shown all of us that you can most certainly pick yourself up.
Slayer of the red carpets, J. Lo is the epitome of style and grace. And yet, even stunning couture gowns won't make you invincible. After presenting an award at the 2015 Oscars, Ms. Lopez had a tiny stumble when the glorious train on her dress got snagged. We should all take note and be sure to have Chris Pine just feet away to lean on.
In Into the Woods, Little Red Riding Hood reminds us that we mustn't put all of our truss in capes and hoods. A constant envelope pusher, Madonna obviously ignored this warning. In spite of this cringe-worthy tumble, the icon constantly reminds us that age is arbitrary. We are the only ones who should have a say in what we are and are not capable of.
We've all fallen for dessert before. I certainly have, probably more than once. If you recall, Perry fell not once, but three times at the 2009 MTV Awards. She just proved to all of us girls that, if you're going to take a plunge, you may as well be covered in icing.
Whether you've stumbled on purpose or you've taken a spill that's caught you off guard, it's perfectly normal. Life is certainly going to knock you off your feet every now and again. The most important thing is to do what our favorite ladies in Hollywood have done: get right back up.
