7 Body Art Trends That Are Everywhere This Spring

by Thalia Ortiz

For the past few weeks, I’ve been scrolling through the best beauty looks on Instagram and I couldn't help but notice an awesome movement happening right before my eyes — the body art trend. I love tattoos as much as the next person and think that they’re a great form of self-expression, but for indecisive people like myself who can’t commit to something so permanent, temporary body art alternatives are the way to go. There are so many options on the market that you can buy online as well, so getting these looks is super easy and hassle free for the most part.

Temporary body art can be an amazing way to change up your look for spring and give your wardrobe a little something extra if you don’t feel like shelling out cash on accessories. With tons of styles out there, it’s absolutely possible to find a temporary tattoo that works for you. There’s a temporary look for almost any mood or occasion and some of them can be very discreet. Not to mention that they can take mere seconds to apply — perfect for those who are always on the run. Just in time for music festival season, get some major inspiration for how to stand out from the crowd with these awesome body art looks.

1. Flash Tattoos

These are not your average stick-on tattoos that you played with in fifth grade: These temporary metallic tattoos are super legit. Most come in either gold or silver, so finding the perfect type to match your complexion won’t be a problem. They are definitely eye catching to say the least and can be bold or minimal depending on the look you’re going for.

2. Glitter

Okay, so hear me out on this one — I know that glitter might look a bit juvenile, but it’s a temporary form of body art totally worth considering. While glitter isn't the most popular type of body art that I see on Instagram and hasn't exactly earned over the hearts of the masses, if done right, glitter tatts can look gorgeous and really allow you to experiment with color.

3. Henna

Henna body art is intricate, special, and all its own. Often donned for truly special events, like weddings, this look has gone mainstream as of late. And for a reason: Henna tattoos are so detailed, full of beautiful individuality, and can be painted in just about any shape you can think of. This one is definitely a must to try.

4. Lace Tattoos

These are pretty new to the scene and shaking up the temporary body art game. Once reserved strictly for clothes, lace has made its way into beauty with temporary tattoos that you can apply on your face. These are probably best for a night out since they’re pretty out there and not subtle at all, but still gorgeous nonetheless. There even exist lace tattoo lipsticks and eyeshadow stick-ons to give your makeup the perfect touch with a fun lace pattern.

5. Body Jewels

Body jewelry can add an instant glam and feminine touch to any outfit. The great thing about this body art is that you can pair it with different colored gems for a vibrant look, or you can keep it simple and just use basic gems for a classic style. Body jewels are a step up from blinged out rhinestones and can even look classy if done right.

6. UV Makeup

This look is definitely not for the faint of heart, but will rather work best for a daring soul. Although this body art can be time consuming to say the least, the end results are pretty amazing and will leave a statement wherever you go. In the above photo, this person is rocking UV paint makeup and absolutely slays. This kind of body paint will glow in the dark under a blacklight, making it the perfect beauty look to rock in a music festival setting at nighttime. Honestly, how much cooler does it get than that?!

7. Nail Art Tattoos

If subtle is more what you’re going for, nail art tattoos might be the ideal option. This chic body art accessory will dress up any manicure in an instant. Similar to flash tattoos, this body art uses a metallic temporary tattoo that is transferred across the knuckle and blends into your finger’s existing nail art.

In this photo, the person paired their tattoo with a chain link manicure that complemented the body art perfectly. This definitely takes a creative spin on nail and body art, fusing them together for a stylish match that will make you the envy of all your friends. You could probably also do this with other types of temporary tattoos, like a feather, and finish the feather pattern by hand painting it on your nail for a chic, boho vibe.
