'Monsters U,' The Only Prequel We're Excited For

by Dale Neuringer

Monster's University is released in theaters Friday and, for the first time potentially ever, everyone's excited to see it. In the past, prequels have been notoriously ill-recieved (reference all Star Wars prequels, also Hannibal Rising), but Monsters University looks to be as fun and fancy-free as the original. Besides, Mike Wazowski and James "Sully" Sullivan are the cutest duo we've seen since Dory and Nemo, only fuzzier. Just look at 'em.

What's nice is that it looks like Monsters University has not sacrificed its more tender moments for high-budget mindless fun, like many other prequels have. There's little doubt that prequels and sequels, especially for children's movies, are often just brainless cash cows made specifically to squeeze out more money from begrudging parental pockets. (Uh, hello Cars 2 and Lilo and Stitch 2.) But Monster's University looks as rollicking and morally aware as Monsters Inc., which is refreshing.

You can bet your ass I'll be donning my fuzzy blue hat this weekend and heading to the theaters to see Monsters University. Because there's a little bit of Mike Wazowski in all of us, and I for one am excited to see how he does at college.
