"Vibe" May Keep Cisco Safe On 'The Flash'
Including this Tuesday's episode, there are only four new episodes of The Flash left before the season finale. Where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday we were meeting Barry Allen for the first time, and getting to know his gang at S.T.A.R. Labs. But as The Flash winds down its freshmen season, there's a chance it'll end with one less S.T.A.R. Lab inhabitant: Cisco. We've already seen him die once (and it was the worst). Is there a chance Cisco could die for real on The Flash this season? More importantly, would we even be able to cope with that?
Cisco's a smart guy, so of course he figured out Harrison Wells' big secret. Sadly, that cost Cisco his life. However, thanks to time travel, Cisco isn't in fact dead, he just has strange memories or flashbacks of when he was killed by Wells in an alternate timeline. In the real timeline of The Flash, obviously, Wells didn't kill Cisco. But that doesn't mean Wells won't try again. While we don't know how the brain of Eobard Thawne really works, I think we can bet on the fact that he knows he killed Cisco at one point. Now that Cisco's starting to remember the event in some way, hopefully Wells won't take drastic measures once again.
This is something I really don't even want to think about, because I love Cisco, and I know I'm not the only one. Besides, he still has to become a superhero in his own right.
In DC Comics, Cisco Ramon holds the title of Vibe. He's a metahuman who can harness the power of shock waves, thus the alter ego. In his newest appearance in the Justice League of America, Cisco can now interfere with the Speed Force, which is basically time travel for Barry that can lead to other dimensions. Pretty fitting that Cisco has this memory of a completely different timeline, huh?
Well, at least that's what The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has lead us to believe. When asked by TV Line how Cisco can "see" his death in a different reality, Kreisberg explained, “We all know that Vibe’s powers are derived from the powers that separate the dimensions. And alternate timelines can be considered alternate dimensions. So, it’s not the worst inference anyone could make.” So the fact that Cisco can "see" this death of his brings him one step closer to Vibe? I'll take it.
Just because Cisco is on his way to becoming Vibe doesn't mean he won't die again, though. He could "die," but somehow keep surviving. Now that we know there's another new timeline in Central City, time travel is possible, and that Vibe might be able to manipulate these timelines, I guess it could be argued Cisco could die a million times, and then come back in a million and one other realities. As long as he comes back each time to keep supplying us with great nicknames and puns, I'll be happy.
