Couple Getting Married On Groom's 103rd Birthday

by Kat George

Here we go with the Cutest Thing Ever Of The Day: 102-year-old George Kirby is getting married to his 91-year-old "girlfriend", Doreen Luckie, on his 103rd birthday. I put girlfriend in quotes because it seems weird to call a 91-year-old woman a "girl" but I wanted to use "girlfriend" too because it makes it all so much cuter and more adorable than an official, sensible word like "partner". The nuptials will make Kirby the oldest groom in history, and together, will make the pair the oldest newlyweds in history, as their combined age will span nearly 195 years, said Dean Cain on a recent episode of Ripley's Believe It Or Not. (He didn't say that; That was a joke, just in case you didn't get it.)

Kirby and Luckie have been "living in sin" since 1988, which is 27 years worth of premarital...hand-holding. The pair are finally tying the knot because of pressure from their children, although this will be Kirby's 3rd marriage, and widow Luckie's second. Between them, they have 7 children, 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, which I'm sure will make for a huge bridal party. The two met through a match making service and Kirby proposed last Valentine's Day. I guess if anything we can learn that there's always room for love, no matter how old you are, or what you've already experienced. And second chances. Because it's not over until it's over.

Let's hear it for old people in love. Like these sweethearts:

Noah and Allie in The Notebook...

And Carl and Ellie in Up...

Crying yet? Nope? What about the old couple in Titanic...

And of course, the truest love of all, that doesn't wane with age:
