MAC & Guo Pei Team Up For A Glam Makeup Line

by Jamie Cuccinelli

The world of designer-meets-makeup brand collaborations continues to get more and more exciting with MAC x Guo Pei, a Chinese couture designer. This collection is just as colorful as the designer's famous gowns.

With the Met Gala and the China: Through the Looking Exhibit right around the corner, there's never been a better time for MAC to announce this collaboration. Guo Pei is known for designing ornate, exquisite gowns with an artistic aesthetic that can take up to an incredible 50,000 hours to create and require four men to help carry the train. But now the Chanel of China, as NY Mag's The Cut calls her, is branching out with a makeup collection that took three years to create and promises to be just as over the top and glamorous.

“There is a kingdom in a flower; a wisdom in a leaf. I always find the power of the nature fascinating, especially when the flowers are blossoming,” said Guo Pei, quoting a Chinese proverb as inspiration for the collection. The packaging is unmistakably Guo, with a glided floral print. And the actual contents of the 16-piece line are just as otherworldly, with bright pops of blue, creamy rich neutrals, and eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick galore.

The collection is set to launch in October, and five custom couture gowns inspired by the makeup line and designed by Pei will be revealed the day after the Met Ball, which is next week. But to occupy yourself while you wait, check out some of Guo Pei's most crazily stunning creations below (and try not to cry over not being invited to the Met Gala this year).
