The Flawless Arrival Of Royal Baby #2

by Jennifer Still

I think we all know by now what a very special day this is for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Kate Middleton gave birth to Royal baby #2, a healthy baby girl, at 8:34 AM UK time on Saturday, May 2 and the world has been losing its mind ever since. It's definitely cause for celebration, and if you're anything like me, you were probably glued to the live video stream set up in front of the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's hospital all day, waiting for the first glimpse of Middleton, Prince William and the new princess. Finally, at around 6:16 PM local time, the family emerged (sans Prince George, who had visited earlier in the day) and departed for Kensington Palace for some much-deserved and much-needed peace and quiet.

If it sounds as though all of this — Middleton's seemingly, well, seamless labor and delivery — went off a little too smoothly, maybe that's because it actually did. Given that she had such a rough first trimester due to severe morning sickness, it was probably a relief that her daughter arrived without complications and the royal family can now take the baby home and enjoy private time together. Plus, you have to admit, it's more than a little impressive that when we all went to sleep last night, Royal Baby #2 was nowhere to be seen and now, less than 24 hours later, she's tucked up safe & sound with her mother and father back at Kensington Palace.

Seriously — take a look at the timeline of the arrival of the princess and just try and tell me this isn't impressive.

Middleton is admitted to St. Mary's hospital & in labor as of 6:45 AM London time

Having been driven to the hospital from her London home of Kensington Palace less than two miles away, first reports of the Duchess being in labor leak to the press. It wasn't all that surprising, given that her due date was said to be between mid- to late April.

Sure, having your second child is generally easier than the first, but less than two hours in labor? What magic is this?! Thankfully, the baby — finally confirmed to be a little girl — is healthy, weighing in at 8 lbs, 2 oz. Of course, some royal fans have been hanging out at the hospital for UP TO A MONTH already, and this was their special day.

Around 3:50 PM, Prince William leaves St. Mary's

It's believed Prince William has gone back to Kensington Palace in order to check on Prince George and perhaps bring him back to meet his new sister.

Prince George seems a bit perplexed by all the fuss being made, but he dutifully waves along with his father and they head back into the hospital.

Around 6:12 PM, the Duke and Duchess emerge with the princess to greet the public

Everyone goes INSANE at the first sight of both Royal Baby #2 and Middleton, since this is the first time we've seen her since giving birth. She looks absolutely radiant and far too refreshed to have just given birth less than 10 hours prior.

Less than 10 minutes later, Prince William, Kate Middleton and their new baby are headed home

Approximately 12 hours after being admitted to the Lindo Wing, the Duchess and her new baby girl are out of the hospital and the family heads home to Kensington Palace. Talk about efficiency!

Kate Middleton, you are truly a hero.
