OK, so, Empire's Cookie Lyon and I have lived vastly different lives. For instance: My musical talent is non-existent, while hers is palpable — and, y'know, unlike Cookie, I've never seen the inside of a jail cell (and hope never to). Despite these differences, though, Cookie’s endless wisdom and impeccable fashion sense have forged an unbreakable sisterhood between us (at least I'd like to think so). With a fairly short, 12-episode first season, Fox’s breakout freshman series Empire had very little time to make a true impression on us, but, by the season finale, it was difficult to imagine life without Empire. Additionally, more than any other character on the show, it was Cookie who left an indelible imprint on our souls. She may be a bit rough around the edges, but Cookie is one of the most relatable characters on television: From her biting remarks on race and privilege to attacks on sexism and misogyny, Cookie Lyon is known for saying the very thing that other people are too polite to say.
