I can never decide what I like more about the dozens — maybe even hundreds — of lip balms I've amassed as an occupational hazard of being a beauty writer. Is it the softness they impart? Or the yummy taste and smell? With Hello Kitty and Softlips creating a lip balm collection, which is limited edition and boasts a mystery flavor, I am starting to think that "tastes great" is superior to the softening agents.
The HK x Softlips collection is certainly gunning for a young, female consumer who likes cute things. I certainly am not the target demo for Hello Kitty, but I still love all the mystery that surrounds her. She looks innocent, but I think her heart has a little bit of darkness, which I love about her.
Now about this Softlips partnership. It will boast three balms: Apple, Passion Fruit, and Strawberry Banana. Those are okay and all, especially since the product will be infused with SPF 15, adding an extra layer of protection.
But it's the mystery flavor that is included in a $12.99 gift set also featuring the three aforementioned flavors that has me all sorts of excited.
I wish any balm manufacturer would try these five flavors.
1. Chocolate Cherry
Choco cherry is so decadent, since I am over chocolate strawberry or chocolate raspberry. Lips would be extra kissable, no?
2. Pickle
Go ahead and call me cray, but pickles are one of my five favorite foods and while I am all for for sweet-flavored balms, there is always room for a savory, zesty flavor.
3. Vanilla Peanut Butter
Mmm! Peanut butter is often paired with chocolate, but I think vanilla is an equally fine, sweetly-scented choice for a balm. I'd want to eat my lips with every swipe.
4. Pink Lemonade
What's better than a slightly tart, light scent and flavor for summer? How about pink lemonade? Hello Kitty loves light colors, too, so...
5. Salted Caramel
Oh, just because it is the most popular desert flavor of the day. Again, I'd probably chap my lips with this flavor, since I'd apply, lick it off, apply, lick it off, ad nauseum, thus exacerbating a chapped lip situation.
Bring it, Hello Kitty and Softlips.
