Remember Aerosmith's "Amazing" Cyberspace Video?

by Kristie Rohwedder

When was the last time you watched the music video for Aerosmith power ballad "Amazing"? Was it at some point within the last decade? Yesterday afternoon? Never? Well, until it popped up in the middle of a '90s music video block on Vh1 Classics last Sunday morning, I think the vid and I last crossed paths in 1993, which was the year it made its debut. It'd been far, far too long since I put this magnificent virtual reality adventure in my eyes. I'm glad we've been reunited.

In the clip, a teen (Dazed and Confused's Jason London) adds the blonde protagonist from Aerosmith's “Crazy” music video (Alicia Silverstone, duh) to the virtual reality he's created on his computer (at least, I think that's what happens. Listen, I'm no tech wizard. I can barely handle running updates on my laptop). Then, utilizing some really advanced technology that is beyond my simpleton brain, the teen hacks into cyberspace, puts a toy motorcycle next to what I believe to be the latest version of Wonka Vision, and virtually hangs out with Alicia Silverstone. And by "virtually hangs out with Alicia Silverstone," I definitely mean "virtually cruises on over to MackTown with Alicia Silverstone, 'Bound 2'-style." The video truly lives up to the song's name.
