6 Times George Was Totally Obsessed With Amal

by Maitri Suhas

I never really bought that George Clooney was the most eligible bachelor of our time, but I think I missed the generational gap by just a minute. Anyway, there's no denying that he's empirically handsome, and that many women and men were devastated when he finally was "taken off the market " by Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin) when the two married in September of last year. Immediately, Clooney's reputation as a lifelong bachelor was destroyed, but now he has a new reputation of being, like, totally obsessed with Amal. As he should be, because Amal is clearly the greatest thing to happen to George Clooney, and he knows it. (And I'm sure she knows it, too.)

In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America on May 14, the 53-year old actor still seemed in awe that he was able to get so lucky. "Everything's different," he said all gooey-eyed.

As much as the actor wasn't shy pre-marriage when it came to talking about how he vowed nevereth to wed henceforth, he's even less shy now when it comes to gushing on and on about Amal, maybe just to remind the world, and himself, that he got really goddamn lucky.

The Tomorrowland star is still a lovestruck puppy for his 37-year-old wife, who somehow makes time for him between all of her Barrister-ing (lest we forget she is brokering a deal to get the Parthenon Marbles returned to Greece). Here are six quotes from the mouth of Georgie himself that prove that Amal is the best thing to ever happen to him.

On how long it took him to realize that Amal was something special: "I think about three days in, you could tell. I mean, I knew when I met her that she was so extraordinary and special. And then I wondered if I'd ever get a chance to date her," he told Access Hollywood. Truly the words of a man who counts his blessings every day.

When he literally couldn't be happier

No, really. On Good Morning America, Clooney was all domestically blissed out, talking about his matrimonial heaven: "Everything’s different now. Actually, it is. I was going to make a joke but it is actually." Actually, it is!! He went on to say the two are restoring a home together in England (will it have a bunker?) and jet-setting. (Also, a little overdose of gush: they originally planned not to spend more than a week apart, but, that's difficult because, as Clooney said, Amal has "a real job." She definitely does.)

When Clooney accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2015 Golden Globes, he was all puppy dog in love during his speech and shouted out to the great woman behind the great man. “Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn’t be more proud to be your husband,” he said. She smiled and nodded like, yes, it WAS magical for you, wasn't it?

In an interview with People before he became Mr. Alamuddin, Clooney waxed poetic on his long bachelor-hood and how he didn't want to end up being "an old Lothario," a fate which Amal rescued him from. "I would just like to say to my bride-to-be, Amal, that I love you very much and I can't wait to be your husband," he told the magazine.

When he admitted she was way smarter than him

Clooney told the Daily Mail that literally the only fight that he could win against his wife was an arm wrestling match, because her brilliance outweighed his by miles and miles. He said, "Look, it’s good to surround yourself with anybody who is smarter than you, and for me the bar’s pretty low anyway. But Amal is way up there. She’s brilliant." So true, dude.

When he just didn't know how she does it

I don't really understand how Amal continues to be a badass, high-profile barrister while looking like a flawless goddess who has never sweat a drop in her life, and apparently, Clooney isn't at all clued into the mystery either. While promoting Tomorrowland, he was still puzzled as and awe-struck as ever: "She's stunning and has a great sense of style — there's no stylist or anything, she just comes out like that and she shows up and she looks stunning. "And she does it while she's got 11 cases going — literally. So she's an amazing woman." Co-signed, Georgie.

May we all be as lucky as George Clooney in our lives and find someone who makes us as happy as Amal makes him. And I guess the goddess seems pretty chill with their arrangement, too. Congrats, you crazy kids.
