The Best Overnight Treatments For Popped Pimples

by Courtney Leiva

Finding a huge, unbearable zit on your face can be one of the most scary things on the planet. The urge to squeeze can be irresistible, so it's important to understand what to put on a popped pimple overnight if you don't want to wake up with an even worse situation.

Honestly, you really shouldn't be popping those pesky zits in the first place. Once that ginormous pimple is ruptured, acne-causing bacteria can spread through your pores, which means more acne is likely to form. If the promise of future breakouts isn't enough to keep you from squeezing, keep in mind that popped zits can also cause damage (and scarring) to your skin that could be permanent.

“It can take anywhere from a few days to a week,” explains New York based dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman. “It all really depends upon how quickly your skin heals to clear a pimple.”

Now that the bad news is out of the way, the good news is that there are simple measures anyone can take to ensure a speedy skin recovery if you couldn't resist. Being that your skin naturally regenerates while you snooze, mastering some overnight beauty hacks is a great place to start.

Salicylic acid can be found in many acne-fighting products, but a lot of these pimple busters and zappers can prove to be quite costly. To create your own salicylic acid remedy, look no further than aspirin and water to solve your skincare woes.

“Mashed aspirin with a few drops of water will create a salicylic acid paste,” states Jolie Martin, skincare expert and laser medical esthetician at NYC's SKINNEY Medspa.

Another overnight cure that works wonders happens to be antibacterial manuka honey. Working to stop acne-causing bacteria from spreading to other parts of your face, simply dab some honey onto the infected facial area, and secure with a band aid.

Manuka Honey has many antibacterial benefits,” adds Jolie Martin. “And covered with a band aid, this work to kill bacteria without irritation overnight.”

And to fight any redness associated with pimple popping, using redness reducing products like Visine will surely do the trick.

“If you have redness or irritation the next morning, you can use Visine on a pimple, as it will take the red out quickly,” suggests Martin.

Even though not popping your pimples is probably your best skin care solution, sometimes our impulses get in the way, causing us to make beauty choices we often regret.

But bottom line is this: if you’ve gone ahead and popped that large zit, remember that it’s not the end of the world. Yes, fighting off future acne breakouts and scarring will prove to be a problem, but in taking the proper preventative precautions, you can definitely stop the infection (and not to mention redness) from getting worse.

Like your hair and nails, your skin definitely bounces back, so with time and the right DIY tricks, you can expect your acne nightmares to definitely disappear.
