Madewell & Spotify Team Up For A Collaboration

by Eliza Florendo

“Music has always been part of the Madewell DNA,” Somsack Sikhounmuong told WWD. Music and shopping have always gone hand in hand for me, whether I was putting my favorite playlist on my iPod as I browsed through racks or if I Shazam'ed a track that was playing in a store. So this new Spotify and Madewell collaboration seems like a no-brainer, as music and fashion have been at the heart of every cool girl's passions.

The partnership began this past Monday, and will continue on until June 28. The brand will be hosting live parties this Thursday at 88 of their stores, and will spotlight three kickass female musicians: Sharon Van Etten, Lucius, and Kelela. These three will make appearances in stores, and will also be adding editorial content onto Madewell's blog, Spotify, and other social media outlets. All this summer, the artists will be decked out in all Madewell. OK, I'm getting real jealous here.

What's more: Madewell now has its own Spotify channel, where the team has curated the music. “Music is such an important part of my life and the Madewell girl’s life. We always have customers asking about the playlists we have playing in our stores, so our partnership with Spotify was an obvious no-brainer. I like to think Spotify and Madewell share the same philosophy towards supporting up-and-coming creatives," Sikhounmuong told WWD.

The artists will perform separately in Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles, at invitation only appearances. However, the first 25 people lined up outside will be let in. A sweepstakes is also set up for shoppers to win two tickets to LA for Kelala's show, as well as a $1,000 gift card. Two runner-ups will also have the chance to win $500 and Spotify memberships. “I love the idea of Madewell being part of a lifestyle," Sikhounmuong told WWD.
