What Did Marc Jacobs Say About Kanye West?

by Stephanie Chon

Everyone has their own opinions when it comes to Kanye West, but most of the public’s perception of the rapper-gone-designer is based off events like his outburst at the 2009 VMAs and his collaboration with A.P.C. on a $120 plain white t-shirt. However, if you ever get the chance to talk to the guy, you might find yourself saying some of the same things that Marc Jacobs said about Kanye. According to an interview in Elle, Marc Jacobs called Kanye West intelligent, creative and driven, among other things.

Before Jacobs received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Parsons School of Design earlier this week, he was interviewed by Elle and the topic of Kanye’s partnership with Louis Vuitton popped up. Jacobs explained to Elle how Kanye called him one day to talk about Takashi Murakami and their “conversation about Murakami turned into a conversation about many other things, and it lasted for hours.” Jacobs described West as, “intelligent, so creative, and so driven.” And just based off the phone call along with the Vuitton collaboration, Jacobs was able to really get a feel for West’s love for fashion and admired West’s determination to grow as a designer. “He has passion. He is always dedicated to his work, creatively. And I really like him.”

Getting endorsed by Marc Jacobs is a pretty big deal for the aspiring designer, and I'm sure it will only fuel him to continue his fashion path. I'm curious as to where Kanye will take his design career after the Adidas collection.
