How To Prepare For An Afternoon Of Day Drinking

by Chrissa Hardy

You're in for it, friends. Memorial Day weekend will be a non-stop celebration of no work, American pride, and plenty of time to drink all day and recover all night. Day drinking is the best way to get drunk, and day drinking on Memorial Day, that glorious Monday off, is extra special. It feels like you're breaking all kinds of rules when you get buzzed while the sun is still out. You never feel guilty when indulging on unhealthy food, because you're doing it during normal eating hours and not at 3 a.m. And then you feel like you had a productive day when you've spent that day with your friends and you're still in bed by 9 p.m.

But there's a certain way to do it and do it right. You DO NOT want to reach the afternoon and feel that hangover start to set in, because then you'll just be miserable. There's a process to day drinking that seasoned drinkers know you have to master in order to have a solid day drinking session. Here are all the ways to prep for a day of day drinking this Memorial Day weekend. Follow these steps, and you'll be blissfully drunk all day and be ready to go just as hard the next day.

1. Eat before you start

Have a balanced breakfast. Make sure that tummy is full before the booze enters. And don't just have pancakes or sugary cereal. Add some fruit and protein in there to give yourself a nutritious base before you utterly wreck it with alcohol.

2. Keep shots to a minimum

We all love shots (especially Fireball), but take them sparingly and spaced out. Three shots in a row is never a good idea for anyone.

3. Alternate booze with H20

Whether it's a beer, a shot, or a cocktail, have a glass or bottle of water after each one. This will keep you hydrated, and will keep your buzz from heading down Blackout Alley in the middle of the day.

4. Take it slow

This is a marathon, not a sprint. If you have more than two drinks per hour, your day of drinking will end before everyone else's, so take it slow and enjoy the ride.

5. Snack away throughout the day

Any food you have will soak up the booze, so even if you don't remember or don't have a set lunch planned, make sure you're snacking to keep that belly occupied.

6. Get ready for an early bedtime

There's only so much sun and booze a person's body can take before they become completely exhausted. Just know you're going to bed early enough that you won't have to worry about making a drunken infomercial purchase.

7. Guzzle water at the end of the day

Before you climb under those covers, drink a full bottle of water. Yes, you'll have to pee in the middle of the night, but you'll also wake up feeling less like garbage and more like a young college kid ready for another drunken adventure.
