Twitter Responds To Caitlyn Jenner

Twitter has been ablaze this afternoon responding to Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair cover. Although we'll have to wait until later this month to read the full interview with Caitlyn (formerly known as Bruce) Jenner, the stunning images of her taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz have been quite enough to get everyone talking.

As Dan Savage succinctly put it: "Bruce and 'he' are over, Caitlyn and 'she' are here," so let's not get it twisted. Jenner has embraced her true self in the most public way possible, and whatever you think about the Kardashian clan, there's no question that this is a groundbreaking day of visibility for trans* folks. However, this major PR moment should in no way erase or diminish the intense prejudice that so many trans* people face on a daily basis.

As you do when news like this comes over the wire, members of the trans* community and their allies took to their keyboards to express their responses to and frustrations with Jenner's debut. The hashtag #callmecaitlyn is already at 113,000 tweets and counting, and will no doubt reach epic numbers by nightfall. Caitlyn herself is now on Twitter as @Caitlyn_Jenner, and her first post couldn't be more perfect: "I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me." Here are just a few of the reactions to Caitlyn Jenner's epic reveal:
