Be Glad You Don't See Any of This On 'RHOBH' Now
It has been a few months since another season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills ended, the fifth one to be exact. When we last left the Housewives, Kyle Richards was doing her best to look after her sister Kim, who had made waves with Kyle and the other Housewives, and Lisa Vanderpump was being her usual stern and sassy self. Though these three are the only original RHOBH cast members to still be on the show, a recent re-watch of the pilot episode of RHOBH reveals that not much has changed in five seasons.
The RHOBH pilot, which originally premiered on Oct. 14, 2010, introduced us to the ladies of the 90210, whose original cast included Kyle, Kim, and Lisa, as well as Camille Grammer, Adrienne Maloof, and Taylor Armstrong. From that first episode, we learned that Kim and Kyle have some serious sister issues to work out, Lisa loves Giggy and to bust other people's chops, and Adrienne uses every opportunity to promote her business ventures. Like I said, not much has changed at all.
However, nearly five years later with a whole new cast and a whole lot more drama, RHOBH has changed since the pilot episode in more ways than we realize, and the show is better for it. Here are five things that didn't last too long after the pilot episode of RHOBH, which I am very happy about.
1. Lisa's "Permanent Houseguest" Cedric
Lisa and Cedric were attached at the hip during Season 1 of RHOBH. Cedric had worked at the gay club Lisa and her husband Ken Todd owned when they lived in London. Cedric followed the couple to Beverly Hills, and by the time RHOBH started, he had been living with them for almost two years. Lisa introduced Cedric in the pilot after she told the audience about her husband, her children, and Giggy, so he was basically like family.
The pilot showed the two working out together, Lisa teasing Cedric, and he serving it right back at her, so they seemed like they were going to be friends for life. But, thank goodness Cedric is now out of Lisa's life because he was ultimately no good. Cedric, Lisa, and Ken eventually had a major falling out after the couple called their houseguest out on his laziness and he threatened to sell his story to magazines. They, of course, eventually kicked Cedric out of their house, and he later said horrible things about Lisa during the Season 1 reunion. How you can behave so horrifically toward people that took you in and let you live in their gorgeous home rent free, I will just never understand. Good riddance, Cedric.
2. Kelsey Grammer
If you blink, you just might miss Kelsey Grammer in the RHOBH pilot. He appears briefly to tell the audience it's time for Camille to get the spotlight, pack some "gay" shirts, and head out to star in La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway... for a year. Even if we didn't already know that Camille had filed for divorce by the time this episode aired because Kelsey started a relationship with then-29-year-old Kayte Walsh, you could tell by how distant the couple seemed that something was going on between these two. However, even watching this episode back now, my skin can't help but crawl when Kelsey appears on screen because of what he put Camille through, and I don't even like Camille. If only this was truly the last time he appeared on RHOBH and we didn't have to endure the awkwardness of Camille accompanying Kelsey to the 2010 Tony Awards even though she knew her marriage was over later on in the season.
3. Adrienne's Bickering With Her Husband Paul
Speaking of nasty divorces, or should I say a soon-to-be nasty divorce, Adrienne was still very much married to Paul Nassif during the pilot episode of RHOBH. However, you wouldn't know that from all of the fighting these two do. In the pilot alone, Adrienne and Paul argue about politics, self-defense, and the side effects of plastic surgeon Paul injecting filler into Taylor's temples. I was really happy Adrienne left the show after Season 3 because that meant I wouldn't have to see her interact with Paul anymore. These two just gave me a headache.
4. Kyle's Fake British Accent
Kyle tries to imitate Lisa's British accent while the ladies dine before the Sacramento Kings game in the pilot, and it's alright, but it doesn't hold a candle to Lisa's real, lovely voice. The whole incident is altogether embarrassing. I actually doubt this is the last time Kyle ever mimicked Lisa's British accent on RHOBH, and I know Brandi Glanville did it later in the series, but Kyle definitely doesn't do it that much anymore, and for that, I am thankful.
5. Kim Being Standoffish With The Other Women
During the RHOBH pilot, Kim was very reluctant to become friends with the other ladies. Growing up as a child star has made trusting others difficult for her, so she doesn't have a lot of female friends when we first meet her on RHOBH. As much as Kyle tries to make her a part of this social group, inviting her to join the ladies at the Sacramento Kings game and all, Kim doesn't really want to be a part of it and doesn't join in the fun much.
If you've seen RHOBH lately, you know that Kim might still not be friendly with all of the Housewives, but she is definitely eager to get in the mix now, not shying away from conflict with with new cast mates Eileen Davidson and Lisa Rinna in Season 5. She has even found a close gal pal in Brandi. No, Kim is certainly not the wallflower she once was, and I am so glad she has changed her tune, because the show would be so much less entertaining if she hadn't.
