Jennifer Lawrence Movies Say A Lot About Us

by Jennifer Still

Sure, the world is full of all kinds of different people, each of us with our own thoughts and feelings. However, if there's one thing (or, you know, person) that unites all of us as human beings, I feel like it has to be Jennifer Lawrence. I've literally never met anyone in my life that doesn't like her, because how can you not? She seems super chill, she's got a great sense of humor, she's tremendously talented... you get the drift. Plus, as an actress, it's pretty rare to not have at least one clunker in your back catalog. J.Law, however, seems to have avoided this trope, and all of her movies (and there are over two dozen of them) are pretty excellent. How does she do it?!

I'm one of those people who believes we're drawn to what makes sense to us in life, particularly in pop culture. By that I mean, the music, movies, TV shows, and art that resonates with us likely does so for a reason — we see something relatable in it that makes sense to us, and that's how our personal taste evolves. When you think about Jennifer Lawrence movies in particular, you probably like one or two more than others, because... well, because you do. And this says something about who you are. What, exactly? Well, I'll tell you.

The Hunger Games

If The Hunger Games speaks to you most, you're likely courageous, adventurous, and feel passionate about social justice issues in the world around you. You believe in standing up for the underdog and changing the status quo when it's no longer working, and you admire others with the same ideals.

X-Men: First Class

If Lawrence's turn as Mystique inspires you, it's likely because you, too, have felt like an outcast at some point in your life and dream of breaking free of the confines of society's close-minded ideals (or already have) to become your best self. You're imaginative and different, but you wouldn't have it any other way.

Silver Linings Playbook

Silver Linings Playbook speaks to those of us who've often felt conflicted in life. You long for a connection with someone who understands you perfectly, and probably feel drawn to the darker aspects of life because you know they're not dangerous, but rather a part of all of us that deserve to be embraced. You probably feel a bit manic from time to time, and love knowing that you're not alone in this crazy world.

Winter's Bone

Winter's Bone was an amazing independent film, and those who loved it (or had even heard of it back in 2010) were definitely serious cinema lovers. If this is your favorite, you're probably a bit of a movie connoisseur and have heard of stuff no one else has, months before it ever becomes popular. You've got an eye for spotting talent and can always tell when something is going to be big.

American Hustle

If you love American Hustle, it's probably because you've got an inner wild child just screaming to get out. You love the fast life, partying and clubbing until the break of dawn and just letting yourself get crazy, because life's too short to live any other way, right?

Serena

If you loved Serena and felt it was totally underrated, it's probably because you're often nostalgic for the past and feel like you were born in the wrong decade. You likely find yourself fantasizing about having lived in another era, where you would have thrived — though at the end of the day, you love your modern conveniences too much (like, you know, the Internet and indoor plumbing) to think too hard about it.
